What is fatigue and how do I know if I have it - if any of the following are an issue for in excess of two weeks :-
- Constantly feeling tired that doesn't improve with rest.
- Lacking motivation and simple things like choosing what to wear of a day seems like too much.
- Household chores feel insurmountable.
- Trouble concentrating and staying alert.
- Feeling irritable and frustrated at everything and everyone.
Is it any wonder really... we spend our days running from pillar to post being all things to all people. I get it, life is so busy, add partner/kids/pets/work/school/extracurricular activities/elderly family member to care for/housework/food shop to the mix and life can get pretty hectic. Throw in issues such as thyroid disorder, diabetes, chronic infections; all can lead to fatigue as can poor eating habits, stress and anxiety.
Fatigue/chronic fatigue happens to the best of us and it is one of the most common complaints in healthcare.
Yet we tend not to investigate it and instead reach for quick-fixes like energy drinks and caffeine to get us through. The problem with quick-fixes is that they are only temporary and could be masking a bigger issue.
